Stephen M. Kellen (1914-2004)
In Memoriam

A documentary is a partnership. The funders are key partners, not only do they provide the resources to make a film, but also they can become guiding spirits.

This was the case with Stephen Kellen.

Mr. Kellen, with his energy and curiosity, became a part of the film's production at a very crucial time. The funding received from the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Foundation was essential for the completion of the documentary.

Mr. and Mrs. Kellen were both born in Berlin, but had to leave Nazi Germany in the 1930's. They came to the United States, and established their home in New York. Stephen Kellen became the head of the Arnhold and S. Bleichroeder, Inc, an international banking concern based in New York, and as a philanthropist established with his wife, The Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Foundation.

Berlin Metamorphoses is dedicated to Stephen M. Kellen with my gratitude. It is an example of his vision and desire to create an environment for better understanding between the country of his birth and his adopted country.

Mr. Kellen leaves a wonderful legacy through his leadership and support of cultural and intellectual institutions and programs in the United States and Germany.
